Configuration Management (primer/summary/brainstormer)
What's out there?
These are not really meant for configuration mgmt (alone) and have their strengths somewhere else. Just listed for completeness:
rsync
git
fai
and these seem to be the usual suspects (based on some browsing, now sorted :))
ansible
anvil
bcfg2
cfengine
chef
lcfg
puppet
salt
How do these scale? Pros and Cons?
Oliver's comments:
I evaluated Puppet, Chef, cfengine and Ansible earlier - on a purely theoretical level. From what I found Chef seemed to be the best candidate (e.g. scales better than Puppet)
I found
this blog post
very useful
We should also look at
Foreman
to facilitate server life-cycle management with Chef & Co.
We should also consider
Docker
and/or
Vagrant
in the context of app deployment (in contrast to full VMs), maybe with the help of
Packer
.
