node hangs in the FAI installation

symptoms

1. quit often you can see already Error messages while booting the CMOS
2. boot the system with a live system, e.g., grml
3. the write velocity on the nodes is very slow: 4k/s instead of 45 M/s, but smartctl does not return an error. * smartctl /dev/sda.. * dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda.. * dstat 5

solution

Exchange the board.

ipmitool sdr shows nr everywhere

symptoms

1. has the ipmicard or board been exchanged?

solution

Do a dosboot and flash the BIOS and the IPMI card.

ipmitool sdr reports a non-working fan

symptoms

Only one or two fans seem to be non-working.

solution

Most often the problem can be solved by simply restarting the node.

NIC 1 does not work

symptoms

1. dhclient eth0 does not get ip address
2. no contact to ups
3. no SNMP contact

solution

• is mac address being served via the dhcp server?
• cable fine and connected?
• motherboard exchange
