Failure Management: What to do in the event of a hardware failure.

Sick Hard Disk
  • 3ware Controller
  • Areca Controller
    • log in to affected machine as root
    • change directory to /root/root_tools
    • use the cli64 binary to check the status of the array
    • replace the sick hard drive with a new one
    • use the cli64 binary again to check the status of the array. The rebuild should begin shortly.

CD/DVD Drive Won't Open
  • Find a paperclip and straighten it out.
  • Insert the straight end of the paperclip in to the pin-hole on the front of the cd/dvd drive
  • Gently push the paperclip into the drive. The tray should pop out slightly.
  • Carefully pull out the tray.
  • Again, try using the open/close button on the front of the cd/dvd drive.
    • If the open/close button still does not work, replace the cd/dvd drive.
